St. John's Aided Higher Primary School

St. John's Aided Higher Primary School, Kowkrady, holds a remarkable legacy that traces back over a century. Established on April 9, 1923, by the visionary Rev. Fr. R. D. Sequeira, the school began its journey with classes ranging from 1st to 4th standard. It was a modest beginning, yet one that laid a strong foundation for the future.

In 1965, recognizing the growing need for education in the region, the school expanded to include up to the 7th standard. This pivotal expansion marked a new chapter in the school's history, allowing it to cater to a larger number of students and further solidifying its role in the community.

Over the years, the school saw a series of dedicated convenors who played instrumental roles in its development:

• Rev. Fr. R. D. Sequeira (1923): The founder and the first convenor of the school, he set the tone for its growth and commitment to quality education.

• Rev. Fr. Albert Pinto (1933): Continued the mission of the school, ensuring stability and progress.

• Rev. Fr. Gilbert Pinto (1946) and Rev. Fr. Rosario Fernandes (1946): Worked towards strengthening the school's educational framework.

• Rev. Fr. Raphael D'Souza (1953): Focused on enhancing the school's infrastructure and resources.

• Rev. Fr. R. C. Goveas (1954) and Rev. Fr. Jerome D'Souza (1956): Their tenure was marked by further consolidation of the school's achievements.

• Rev. Fr. Aloysius A. Rosario (1959): Brought new initiatives to the school, aligning it with contemporary educational needs.

• Rev. Fr. J. J. Saldanha (1962) and Rev. Fr. J. J. Martis (1962): Played a crucial role in the school's administration and growth during the early 60s.

• Rev. Fr. H. M. S. Tauro (1975): His leadership was characterized by a focus on holistic education.

• Rev. Fr. B. S. Rego (1979): A transformative figure, Fr. Rego oversaw significant developments, including the construction of buildings for St. Rita Orphanage and the establishment of compound walls, marking a period of extensive infrastructural advancement.

Under the convenorship of Rev. Fr. Alban Rodrigues in 1998, the school celebrated its 75th anniversary, a milestone that was graced by the presence of Sr. Hildegard, the then Headmistress. This celebration was not just a reflection of the past but also a moment to envision the future.

A significant leap forward occurred in 2000, late Rev. Fr. Valerian Luise took charge as the convenor. During his tenure, witnessed the construction of a new school building. Also a new computer lab was established with the help of local contributors, reflecting the school's commitment to embracing modern technology. At that time, Sr. Lenita served as the Headmistress, ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution.

By 2004, under the leadership of Sr. Sabitha as Headmistress, the school introduced a mid-day meal facility, provided sports equipment, and expanded its curricular activities, further enriching the student experience.

In 2007 Rev. Fr. Stany Monteiro became the convenor. His tenure witnessed the commencement of an English Medium High School. The school grounds were also expanded, all made possible with the support of the local community. Sr. Dency, who filled the role of Headmistress, guided the school through these transformative changes.

In 2015, Fr. Ronald Lobo initiated the kindergarten program at our school, expanding it up to the 4th class. His vision was to provide a strong foundation for early education within our community. Understanding the needs of parents and students, he also arranged a school bus facility, ensuring safe and convenient transportation for all. This initiative greatly benefited the students, making education more accessible. Fr. Ronald Lobo's efforts have had a lasting impact on our school.

Today, under the capable leadership of Rev. Fr. Anil Prakash D'Silva as the current convenor and Mrs. Geneview Fernandes as Headmistress, St. John's Higher Primary School continues to thrive. The school remains committed to providing quality education while embracing new challenges and opportunities. It stands as a testament to the vision and dedication of its founders and leaders, a beacon of learning and community service for the region.
