On July 28, 2024, our church joyfully celebrated 'World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly' with a series of heartfelt activities and events organized by 'Catholic Sabha' Unit. The celebration began with a Holy Mass at 9:45 AM, presided over by Father Anil Prakash Dsilva and Father Ashok D'souza. The mass, filled with spiritual fervor, set the tone for the day, honoring the wisdom and contributions of our beloved elderly.
Following the Mass, the congregation gathered in the hall above the father's house, where the function commenced with a hymn to the Holy Spirit. The melodious hymn created an atmosphere of reverence and unity. Father Ashok D'souza then shared an inspiring message based on Bible readings, emphasizing the importance of honoring and cherishing our elders.
The event was officially inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the light of wisdom and guidance that grandparents and the elderly provide in our lives. Catholic Sabha President Saritha Strella warmly welcomed everyone with her opening speech, expressing gratitude for the presence of the elderly and their invaluable role in our community.
Esteemed elders Mariyamma Chaco and John Kuwello shared their heartfelt thoughts and experiences, captivating the audience with their wisdom. Following their speeches, Catholic Sabha Director Fr. Anil Prakash Dsilva and Brother Lucas Pinto delivered impactful speeches that resonated with everyone present, highlighting the significance of the day.
The Catholic Sabha Women Welfare Convener, Ms. Babitha Icil Dsouza, organized engaging games for the grandparents and elderly attendees. The games were met with enthusiasm and joy, fostering a spirit of camaraderie and fun. As a token of appreciation, mementos were gifted to all the grandparents and elderly present, acknowledging their contributions and presence.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Catholic Sabha Secretary Mr. Melvin D'souza, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making the day a success. A joyous group photo was then taken to capture the memorable occasion, preserving the moments of togetherness and celebration.
To conclude the celebration, a special lunch was served to all attendees. The delicious meal provided an opportunity for everyone to bond and share stories, making the day even more special. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Praveen Noel Menterio, Vice President - Parish Council, Mrs. Veena Mascarenhas, Secretary - Parish Council, and Mrs. Winifred D'souza, Coordinator - 21 Pastoral Commissions, whose support and participation added to the significance of the celebration.
The day was a beautiful reminder of the value and wisdom that our elderly bring to our community. It was a blessing to honor them in such a special way, creating an atmosphere of love, respect, and gratitude.
